Expert Symposium “Sustainable Lighting Design in Public Spaces”

Light Pollution – A Problem That Affects Us All!

At the symposium held by STERNWERKSTATT and a.b.zoufal-Lichtgestaltung on 2025-11-19, with over 55 experts, a topic was discussed under the leadership of Dr. Dietmar Hager and Andreas Zoufal that many of us experience daily without consciously perceiving it: light pollution.

The symposium was held under the patronage of the City of Linz!

The opening remarks were given by Linz City Councillor Ms. Mag. Schobesberger.

What does this mean exactly?

• A brightly lit night sky extends above larger cities

• Stars are barely visible to the naked eye

• This form of environmental pollution has measurable effects

The experts made it clear: Light smog not only affects our environment but also directly impacts humans. The artificial lighting of our cities alters natural rhythms and ecosystems.

These findings show how important it is to raise awareness about the quality of our night sky. Only by understanding what we lose due to light pollution can we take targeted measures and once again experience more of the natural beauty of the starry sky.
